Meet Gia Claybrooks
Civic Impact Academy Graduate
Class of 2024 Cohort 1
Gia Claybrooks graduated with the inaugural Cohort of Civic Impact Academy in 2024.
Here’s a look at her Community Design Challenge:
Name of Project:
Combat Voter Apathy and Strengthen Accountability
Description:
This project aims to combat voter apathy and increase civic engagement in the Black community by creating a series focused on civic education and pathways for action.
Despite being disproportionately impacted by public policies, Black communities often face challenges in engaging with the political process, as seen in decreased early voting for the 2024 elections in North Carolina.
The project will host meetings, develop an action plan for policy change, and present it in a forum to activate community engagement and mobilize collective action for a stronger political presence.
